Smart use of grey water for flushing waste. A low version would have to be installed as well as so that little kids don't fall in when trying to wash their hands.

Apple's "Think Different" Campaign | circa 1997

" Here's to the crazy ones, the misfits, the rebels, troublemakers, round pegs in the square holes.

1

The ones who see things differently. They're not fond of rules and they pay no respect to the status quo.

2

You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them; but one thing you can't do is ignore them…

3

because they change things, they push the human race forward.

4

And what some may see as the crazy ones, we see genius.

5

Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do. "

Give Up for the Environment

A lot of people give at least one thing up for Lent, regardless of religious denomination. So in consideration of that, and for the sake of the environment, we%u2019re presenting you with the National Resource Defense Council%u2019s list of nine things to give up for the period of restriction. If you can%u2019t stand to give up all of these things, consider choosing just one. And if you don%u2019t participate in Lent, you can still give up any one of the following things in order to improve your carbon footprint and become a kinder environmental person.

NRDC%u2019s top nine things to give up:

1. Plastic and paper bags.

2. Bottled water.

3. Unwanted catalogs.

4. Conventional Detergents.

5. The clothes dryer.

6. Conventional toilet paper.

7. Paper towels.

8. Two degrees (on your thermostat).

9. Dry cleaning.

Drivers confused by stop signs

Media_httpfarm3static_diqli

On my home today I had to drive through a parking lot that houses a 3-Way Stop sign. Now, for some reason, the driver in front of me was utterly confused by the nature of such a beast. What?! 3-Way Stop sign! OMG! What to do? Seriously, if we have drivers on the road not capable of understanding such simple motoring maneuvers, we have major problems. Maybe they could have send a text to get help from a friend.

Hello injury

As a barefoot runner for nearly 9 years and advocate of natural / minimal footwear, this is sad to see. It's amazing that so many runners still believe that marketing spin from footwear companies that cushioning and stability is required. A Harvard study released this week is yet another study proving that barefoot is best and allows the body to run efficiently and with less impact due to no heel-strike. A good resource is www.barefootrunner.com.

Find a calling and then deliver (Seth Godin)

“If a man is called to be a street sweeper, he should sweep streets even as Michelangelo painted or Beethoven composed music or Shakespeare wrote poetry. He should sweep streets so well that all the hosts of heaven and earth will pause to say, ‘Here lived a great street sweeper who did his job well.’” – Martin Luther King, Jr.

Infographic: The Cost of Healthcare

6a00e0098226918833012876a6070f

The United States spends more on medical care per person than any country, yet life expectancy is shorter than in most other developed nations and many developing ones. Lack of health insurance is a factor in life span and contributes to an estimated 45,000 deaths a year. Why the high cost? The U.S. has a fee-for-service system—paying medical providers piecemeal for appointments, surgery, and the like. That can lead to unneeded treatment that doesn’t reliably improve a patient’s health. Says Gerard Anderson, a professor at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health who studies health insurance worldwide, “More care does not necessarily mean better care.”  —Michelle Andrews
